Really hard for me believe but 21 years ago I'd just been given a "real" job at a record company, Profile Records.
One of my first roles was to compile & be executive producer for the Techno (now it would be annoyingly called "EDM") compilations.
"Best Of Techno Vol 1" was the first album of its kind in America that people could find a chain stores like Kmart or Tower Records.
Mostly the tunes were just ones that Gary Pini & I loved & not actually real hits, although it did contain ones by FUSE aka Richie Hawtin & Voodoo Child aka MOBY. http://www.discogs.com/Various-Best-Of-Techno-Volume-One/release/214144
My clunky bad writing for the liner notes below makes me cringe, but its interesting how the gist of it is still relevant today.
